Lundbeck

Lundbeck is a pharmaceutical company focused on advancing brain health.

I designed a set of logos for the six institutes established by the local branch of Lundbeck. Each petal or axon terminal represents one area of specialization such as dementia, depression, etc. Each institute utilizes the same mark in a different colour as seen in these two notepads.

As for the company’s logo, Lundbeck’s Starfish is explained in its corporate brochure with the well-known story: The Starfish represents Lundbeck’s commitment to making a difference, one person at a time. As the story goes, a young man was picking up stranded starfish and throwing them back into the sea. A passerby asked: “Why are you spending so much energy doing something that is only a waste of time? There are thousands of beaches and millions of starfish. How can you make any difference?” Looking at the small starfish in his hand before tossing it back to the safety of the sea, the young man replied: “It makes a difference to this one.”

Two thousand and five was an appropriate year to illustrate this story by preparing a calendar composed of photographs of starfish.
