I was a book designer

Following my studies in Media Production and Design at the London College of Printing, I worked as a graphic designer from 1985 to 2019.

In 2017, I was asked to design the catalogue for the exhibition of a ceramicist. The curator, my dear friend Károly Aliotti thought that without trying our hand at pottery neither he nor I could do justice to the subject. We started going to pottery classes. A few years later a pottery wheel replaced the computer screen and clay took the place of paper.

Designing the pages of Muhibbî Divânı, tulips, hyacinths, marigolds—the same flowers as those in the book—accompanied me from outside the window of my studio. Once I had time to be “in” the garden and lay straight, forking paths, and build a small garden pavillion, I noticed it was a miniature, the Gardens of Dergezin from Nasuh’s Menazilname that was guiding my decisions.

This website is an archive of my work as a graphic designer.
