This site was initially occupied by a mansion belonging to Selim the III’s grand vizier Izzet Mehmet Paşa. This mansion was demolished and then rebuilt accumulating a rich history in the hands of various owners.
The present owner, businessman Hüseyin Bayraktar based the plans of his corporate headquarters on the vizier’s mansion.

Two interesting photographs show the custom of pulling boats from the land when the wind was insufficient to sail against
the current that gives its name, Akıntıburnu or Promontory
of the Current, to this location.
